On July 12, 2023 our 3 y.o. daughter died from Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC). In the US, approximately 450 children age 1-18 died of SUDC in 2021.
Our daughter, who was asleep on my lap did not wake up. How could this happen? Why did this have to happen to our daughter? What did we miss? These are just a few of the endless questions that fill our mind and the minds of other bereaved parents.
The loss of a child is like no other loss. It is not the natural order of life for a parent to bury their child. We not only lost our daughter who had an infectious laugh, a beautiful smile and a compassionate energy, but we lost a huge part of ourselves that day and all hopes and dreams we had for her and for our family.
The money donated will help keep the memory of Maeve alive through charitable giving. We plan to work in phases over the next year & with continued support, hopefully many years to come.
Our first project is complete, a memorial garden & playground at her school, Brentwood Elementary. The theme of the garden is a quote from Tennyson “If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk in my garden forever”. This will be a working garden where children will learn about Florida's native flowering plants & help grow a vegetable garden.
Our second mission is underway. We are collaborating with The Robert’s Program at Boston Children’s Hospital. This organization aids families of SUDC and promotes research into this unknown entity of pediatric death.
Our final goal serves as the cornerstone of the Foundation - Maeve's Wish, a wish-granting organization that grants a child with a life-threatening illness a trip to go to Walt Disney World.
